Stefan Sofiyanski Reelected for the Third Time
Stefan Sofiyanski was reelected for a third mandate
as a mayor of Sofia after a ballot vote on November
2nd, 2003.
He won with exactly 34 578 votes more than the candidate
supported by BSP and coalition Stoyan Alexandrov.
After the final counting Sofiyanski got 246 161 votes
and Alexandrov - 211 574.
Before the ballot vote the new old mayor of Sofia Mr.
Sofiyanski was supported by the UDF, the Gergiovden
coalition, and NMSII, who invoked their supporters to
vote for Sofiyanski at the second stage of the elections.
BSP and coalition leads in the municipal councilors’
list with 26.62%, followed by UDF with 23.30% and the
party of the mayor Sofiyanski Union Free Democrats,
which got 21.02%.
The Gergiovden coalition also got a considerable number
of votes for municipal councilors (9.73%), followed
by NMSII with 6.07%.
Right after his reelection Stefan Sofiyanski announced
that he would work hard on four most important problems
in the city: the finalization of the reconstruction
of the Rotunda Church and the Banski Square, the initiating
of a new methodology for charging the waste, the closing
of the budget year and the acceleration of the negotiations
for a waste recycling factory.
